A New President – How Should Christians Respond

Hello my friends, it’s 2021 and we have a new President, Joe Biden.  In his inaugural speech, he made a call for unity.   My gut reaction was …unity?  My feelings began to flow  … after what the Democrats did to Trump (and 75 million people who supported him, many of which were Christians) it’s like a husband who has been mentally and emotionally abusing his wife  saying, “I’m not sorry for all the things I did these past 4 years but let’s have unity and get along now.”  It’s very hard to forget; it’s too fresh plus I’ve always struggled with quick forgiveness.

The Trifecta.  A trifecta is a bet placed on a horse race in which the bettor must predict which horses will finish first, second, and third, in the exact order.  If you get it right, you win big.

The Radical Left has a “government trifecta” now that they have a political majority in both the House and Senate.  They have the power to reverse current laws (which they are already doing) and it’s a haven for terrible new laws to flourish.  Along with control of both houses of Congress and the White House, they are working fast to establish one-party rule — including stacking the Supreme Court to remove the remaining check on their power, stacking the Senate by creating two new states, and stacking the nation’s demography with unchecked immigration which means more voters.

More than a Trifecta. The Left also has the backing of the liberal news media (ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN and now Fox News) combined with hundreds of left-wing newspapers and publications (New York Times, Newsweek, Politico, Time, the Atlantic, the Guardian, Huffington Post, etc.).  If that wasn’t enough the Left also has the alliance with liberal Big Tech (Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft).  The cooperation of big tech muscle means these companies have unlimited power to influence elections by burying and removing news, and deleting users they don’t like (for example, President Trump).  One more thing, Trump’s’ term did open our eyes to liberal allegiance within the CIA and FBI, including hiding information about Biden’s connections with China, deeply troubling for Americans (which will inevitably come out).

Voter Fraud.  Widespread cheating in the 2020 Election was a great success due to the collaboration of all of the companies listed above and the courts not willing to look at the evidence, a big hot potato.  The Left certainly gets an A+ for suppressing even the idea of voter fraud and for making people believe voter fraud never existed (it exists in every election, just not on a grand scale).  “I know the numbers don’t add up, but there’s nothing behind the curtain.”

Puzzled by the Outcome.   As you know, 2020 wasn’t for lack of praying.  God knows, Christians have spent the past year getting on their knees praying and fasting, like we’ve never done before.  Not only for those affected by the Coronavirus, but the rioting, burning and looting that went on for months, but for the outcome of the election.  Personally, I’ve gotten up many times in the middle of the night to pray for America.  Like many, I’m puzzled why God would allow the most radical administration to have the power to push ungodly laws down our throat and bring harm to Americans.

Wake up – Be Bold.    It has never been clearer that now is the time for the church to wake up and rise up boldly to push back the darkness that is here; that is coming.  Perhaps we Christians have become passive and complacent in reaching out to others to share the good news.   God could have allowed this radical administration to show us how far off course we have drifted; to repent of our own depravity.  Certainly, it is good and right that we pray for America, but more importantly we should be praying for the salvation of the people in our circle of influence, in our own city and across our world.   We cannot look to a President or the White House to save us; it is God we need to look to.

“It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes” (Psalm 118:9).   “Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save” (Psalm 146:3).

A heart of flesh.  If you want to see true, good, and lasting change; look for a changed heart.  It is people who have been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit that will have a heart of flesh – and that my friend can change our courts and government.

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. “  Ezekiel 36:26

What is the Christian Response?

Draw Closer to God

No matter how you feel about the outcome of the election or other events in your life, remember all the things God brought you through in your life; thank and praise Him.  Spend intentional time drawing closer to God through reading His Word.

Pray

We have a mandate as believers to pray for our President and elected leaders.  We need to commend our President for the things he does right but we should also condemn the things the President does wrong.  The laws they pass (and are already passing) is direct evidence whether they are a Christian or not, “you will know them by their fruit”.   Pray that even with a one-party rule, that evil laws will not get passed.

“You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.  A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.”  Matthew 7:16-20

We all get beaten down each day, so pray and encourage each other continuously, as much as you can, as you move through your day.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”  1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Pray that all evil, wicked, deceitful and secret things that are hidden, are revealed.

“For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.”  Ecclesiastes 12:14

Stand for God’s truth

We are in a spiritual war and always have been.  Satan seems to be more active lately in launching attacks on preborn children, God’s design for family, sexuality and gender, children in the school system, hating one another, and even God’s existence.  Satan already has confused many into believing what is evil, is good.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.”  Isaiah 5:20

Take up the whole armor of God that you can stand firmly for truth.

Don’t Bow to Secular Idols

Will you so easily cave in and bow down to worship the secular twin idols of abortion and homosexuality?   Will you allow the Left’s bullying and intimidation keep you silent?  Will the Left’s victimization sway you to their side?   Don’t bow to “cancel culture: but instead be bold and courageous during these turbulent times.  Pick up the sword of truth (the Bible); read it, memorize it every day and you will be armed and ready with truth.

Just as Esther stood up for her people, perhaps you will also step into the gap, into the fray. Perhaps this is your defining moment, to speak up, to make a difference; for such a time as this.

“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

Trust in God and Love Others

Trust what God is doing even when we can’t see it.  Have faith that God is working His plan.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”  Hebrews 11:1

In summary, God’s kingdom has and will continue to grow, no matter who is President.  We as Christians should conduct ourselves as followers of Christ, and walk in love.  How we feel about the President, Vice President or those in leadership positions has no bearing on what God expects us to be.  Put your angry and disappointed feelings aside; choose to love others anyway; yes, even our enemies.  Ask for wisdom in your discussions and be a light; the world needs it and they are watching.
