It’s a Saturday night and you want to see a movie. Do you race off and just see or rent any movie? The Bible tells us that the eye is window of the soul and we must be careful what we take in. What we see is imbedded in our memories and many times becomes a part of us. Don’t pollute your mind with bad stuff. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. Mathew 5:29 We must also be careful what we hear such as the Lord’s name being taken in vain. "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. Exodus 20:7 Check before you see the movie... So before you run off to see a movie better check it out at www.screenit.com (you’ll need to sign up). Or go to www.christiananswers.net/spotlight and check out the morality ratings. If you are taking any kids to the movies, you definitely should be cautious what they are seeing. Today’s movies are full of violence, sex and bad language and it is hard to find one that is a great movie without all of the above. You might need to invest and hook up TV Guardian. (www.tvguardian.com).

The movie: An original action based sci-fi kind of movie with the premise of planting an idea in someone’s head (inception) by entering in their dream state so they think the idea is their own. The movie is extremely visually and intellectually stimulating as you (and the actors) are keeping track of which layer of dream they are in. The main character must learn to let go of the life-altering mistakes of his past and forgive himself. And dream or not, the reality is that inspiration cannot be faked or forced.
My take: The director could have left out the main character’s taking the Lord’s name in vain but you could rent the movie and watch it with TV Guardian. Bad guys are constantly creeping into the dreams and killing the bad guys are constantly happening. Definitely not a movie for children.
We as Christians, know that dreams in the Bible have been a form of how God has communicated to us. We also realize that a movie like this initiates the discussion of the mind's complexity and that true inspiration, our creative powers, and forgiveness come from The Creator – God.
